The various UTIT Committees and their duties are outlined below, current as of June 2024. Please note that responsibilities and duties may change at the request and approval of the Executive Board.

Constitution Revision Committee The members of the Constitution Revision Committee must solicit, from the membership, suggestions for changing the Constitution, review such suggestions, and make proposals to the Executive Board for changes in the Constitution. Once approved by the Executive Board, the committee must distribute proposed changes to the membership and answer questions regarding the proposals at the general membership meeting. Election Committee An Election Committee consisting of two members from each building, who are not on the nominating ballot, shall conduct nominating and election procedure. The President shall appoint one member of this committee chairperson. Committee members will service for a term of two years. Grievance Committee Shall implement the grievance procedure as stated in the UTIT contract. The Grievance Chairperson, upon the recommendation of the Grievance Committee, shall have the responsibility of making the decision as to whether a grievance shall proceed to third stage.

Health and Welfare Coordinator The Health and Welfare Coordinator will secure checks from the UTIT Treasurer for any amounts expended for illness, death or retirement. He/She will have available a supply of application for Mass Cards, Heart Fund, etc. These are to be used in the event of the death of a UTIT member or a person in the member's family and any other close relationship. The Coordinator will arrange for flowers or gifts to be sent to the hospital or home of a member if he/she is hospitalized. He/She will make sure Building Representatives are familiar with various forms (i.e; dental and vision, membership, retirement, etc.) They will keep contact with companies whose forms we use to make sure they are current. | Helen Kane Email: hkane@islandtrees.org

Membership Chairperson The Membership Chairperson will organize and attend the UTIT portion of the new teacher orientation. He/She will have on file an accurate list of members, distribute copies of the UTIT Constitution to new members, maintain an updated list of members with updated addresses and phone numbers for NYSUT along with building codes. He/She will keep in touch with members on leave of absence, maintain updated building lists for elections, and provide such lists to the Election Committee and Health and Welfare Coordinator as needed. Social Committee Conduct district UTIT social functions. In the event of the retirement of a member, the chairperson will arrange for the purchase of an appropriate gift for the Retiree. The chairperson will coordinate activities for members. | Jaclyn Lein Email: jlein@islandtrees.org

Website Coordinator The Website Coordinator will complete maintenance of the UTIT website, ensuring web server, hardware and software, and domain name are operating accurately year round. He/She will monitor security of the website, interface with West Host ISP to monitor upgrades, downtime, invoices, etc. He/She will create and check links, manage and create content, generate, revise and add web pages. He/She will update content on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis as content emerges from a variety of sources included UTIT Executive Board, UTIT Reps, BOE, etc. He/She will create and post PDF files for all UTIT forms, scan Retiree digest for posting to the UTIT website and update content from emails containing information regarding events and actions. | Brittany Lahti Email: blahti@islandtrees.org

Welfare Trust The Trustees are responsible to administer the Welfare Trust for the benefit of the members of the UTIT. This includes reviewing and enhancing our dental and vision plans. Ed Delegate The ED Delegates make up the political action part of the union. The delegates must go to one monthly meeting and keep the Executive Board up to date on the topics discussed. Topics include: Vote Cope, various NYSUT presentations, union-wide happenings, fundraising and other social action groups. | Geralynn Townsend |
